Paymon Selected Officer of the Year
Officer Eric Paymon was honored as Officer of the Year by the Vicksburg Homecoming Benevolence Club at the clubs 32nd Year banquet in February 2016. The award is named the "Artel Moore Award" after current Patrol Commander, Milton Arteal Moore.
Officer Paymon’s career aspirations were always to be a police officer. To be nominated for this award for a second time was humbling for this officer of many words. The only thing missing when he was bestowed this honor was his mother who was his biggest cheerleader. Officer’s Paymon’s personal angel transitioned late last year, but her spirit drives him to be the best in all that he does.
Officer Paymon was hired with the City of Vicksburg in February 2007, as a patrol officer. He has worked in Investigations and Traffic. Officer Paymon is presently serving as an interim shift commander, where he currently has 11 officers under his command.
Officer Paymon attended the Mississippi Law Enforcement Training academy where he graduated with honors in 2006. He has completed training in Interview and Interrogation, Psychological Response to Active Shooter, Field Training Officer, Mobile Video Instructor, SFST, Accident Reconstruction and numerous other training courses, including FEMA Incident Command System ICS200, ICS300, ICS400, and ICS700. Officer Paymon is the Range Master for the department; serving as the fire arm’s instructor for handgun, shotguns and patrol rifles.
Officer Paymon is a supporter to the community youth through the City of Vicksburg’s Streetball Program and involved in other community programs; he is also a Vice President of the Randy Naylor Foundation Officer Paymon is also the CEO of Secure One, a private security company in Vicksburg. He is married to Kimberly and they are blessed with two children, Eriel and Eric.
Holt, Firefighter of the Year
Fire Lieutenant Derrick Holt was recently honored by the Vicksburg Homecoming Benevolent Club as Firefighter of the Year at their 32nd year Award’s ceremony.
Lt. Holt’s knew during his childhood that his career aspirations would lead him to a career of being of service to others. He began his firefighting career with the Vicksburg Fire Department over 17 years.
Lt. Holt attained Emergency Medical Technician certification through training at Hinds Community College. Lieutenant Holt has attended numerous courses at the Mississippi including but not limited to Fire Academy Emergency Ambulance Driving, Aircraft and Rescue Firefighting, Urban Search and Rescue, HAZ-MAT Technician 1 and HAZ-MAT Technician 2, Fire Officer 1and Fire and Fire Officer 2.
Lieutenant Holt graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1994. He is currently a member of Trinity Temple where is loves to serve Lord through song. He is married to Tomika, together they have seven children.
Honored for Excellent Customer Service was Mrs. Alberta Wheeler
Booking officer Alberta Wheeler was recently received surprise special recognition ward by the Vicksburg Benevolence club for
giving courteousness and outstanding service while performing her job duties at the front desk of the Vicksburg Police Department. This is the first time in 32 year history of the Award’s recognition ceremony that a civilian has been recognized for services rendered.
After having a bad day trying to gather information and prepare for the banquet, Willie Glasper, club president, was greeted by Wheeler who assisted without hesitation. Her professionalism and eagerness to assist would not go unnoticed. Wheeler was asked to attend the banquet and accepted the invitation completely unaware she would be. Visible shocked and humbled by the situation, Wheeler was surprised that people kept the secret from her. Words of her pastor, Rev. Joe Harris reminds Wheeler to treat others as she would like to be treated and to be careful how you hold yourself because you never know who is watching.
Mrs. Wheeler’s is no stranger to great customer service. She has been recognized 3 times within the last year for excellent customer service. Mrs. Wheeler is married to Edward Wheeler they are the parents of one son and daughter. The family attends Pleasant Valley M.B. Church where Mrs. Wheeler is an usher and always greet people with a big smile. Mrs. Wheeler is an avid walker, often seen walking in the downtown area.
