Vicksburg Offers Amnesty For Payment of Fines

The City of Vicksburg has declared February 1, 2012 through March 31, 2012 an amnesty period for payment of outstanding fines. The Board voted this week to allow the amnesty so that citizens can pay their delinquent fines and avoid a visit to Municipal Court.


Trash Container Lids On The Way

Toter Inc. informed us this week that the trash container lids that were on backorder for several months will be shipped next week. As soon as the lids arrive, repairs to damaged containers will begin.

Washington Street Bridge To Reopen

After a three year closure, the Washington Street Bridge will reopen for public use on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 12:00 noon.

Clearing the Air: Eliminating Exposure to Secondhand Smoke in All Public Places: A community forum, sponsored by the Smoke-free Mississippi Campaign, will be held in Vicksburg to provide information and education on smoke-free air and the importance of enacting statewide comprehensive smoke-free air legislation that will restrict smoking in all indoor public environments and workplaces; thereby, protecting the health of all Mississippians. Mardi Gras Parade

mardigrasDowntown Vicksburg's Annual Mardi Gras Parade will be at 4:00 p.m. in Downtown Vicksburg. All area Clubs, Churches, Organizations, Schools, Dance/Drill Teams, and Businesses are invited to take place in this community parade. The parade begins at Washington and Belmont streets and will travel North on Washington Street to Jackson Street. Carnival de Mardi Gras

It's time for Mardi Gras! For the past several years, the Vicksburg Foundation for Historic Preservation has hosted a Mardi Gras Ball for Vicksburg to celebrate the season. This year, we have decided to broaden the audience and event by hosting Vicksburg's first Carnival de Mardi Gras! Vicksburg's Carnival de Mardi Gras will be a festival immediately following the Vicksburg Mardi Gras Parade from 5p.m. to 11p.m. on Saturday, February 18, at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center on the corner of Cherry and Crawford Streets. The new, casual event will include a Cajun Gumbo Cook-off, live music, dancing, childrens activities and much more! All proceeds benefit the Vicksburg Foundation for Historic Preservation. Vicksburg residents and businesses - To enroll go to, www.vicksburg.org, select the "Emergency Management" department webpage, click on the "CodeRED Weather Warn" icon, then submit your emergency contact information on the "community notification enrollment" page. Select the type of weather warning notifications you wish to receive. If you need assistance, contact the City of Vicksburg Action Line at 601-636-3411, during regular office hours Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 5:00 pm. Important: Make sure your phone(s) allows calls from 1-800-566-9780 (for weather warnings) and 1-866-419-5000 (for other CodeRED Vicksburg emergency calls).

*Don't forget to re-enroll (Update your information) if your phone number or address has changed.  If you enroll and your address is not within city limits, you will not receive codeRED or codeRED weather alerts."
