I would like to commend the site selection committee for all their efforts in the development of a sports complex for the City of Vicksburg. I feel we are half-way to our destination and with determination and dedication, a sports complex will become a reality for our community. Furthermore, as a result of the site presentation meeting last night on April 9, 2015, which I thought was very productive and informative, I would like to make the following recommendations:
Mississippi State Treasurer, Lynn Fitch, visited with Mayor George Flaggs this past week. State Treasurer Fitch was in Vicksburg touring Bowmar Avenue Elementary during its Leadership Day 2015. She was able to learn more about the Leader In Me Initiative and view how 1st Year Lighthouse School Bowmar Avenue Elementary is empowering young students to make the best choices for their future.
National Flood Insurance Program: April 1, 2015, Program Changes
FEMA continues to take important steps to implement changes to the National Flood Insurance Program as called upon by the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 (Biggert-Waters) and the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act of 2014 (HFIAA). These reforms slow some flood insurance rate increases and offers relief to some policyholders who experienced steep flood insurance premium increases in 2013 and early 2014.
On behalf of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Vicksburg, I would like to inform everyone that it finally appears that we are getting closer to the reality of a sports complex for our community. The Mississippi State House of Representatives has agreed with the Senate version of the sports complex bill and it has been sent to the governor for his signature.
|Vicksburg Comprehensive Plan|
The purpose of this Comprehensive Plan is to serve as a general and long-range policy guide to decision-making for the City of Vicksburg. The Plan is "comprehensive" in that it includes all of the city's geographical areas and service functions that sustain or support the city's physical development.

I have just been informed by the family of the Honorable Sid Beauman, former South Ward Alderman of the City of Vicksburg that he has passed away. I am deeply saddened by his loss. I know he fought the good fight, and on behalf of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Vicksburg, my prayers and condolences go out to his family. The City of Vicksburg has lost a true public servant and our entire Vicksburg family shares in the loss of this great individual.
Due to emergency repairs of underground utilities near the intersection of Bowmar Avenue and Letitia Street, Bowmar Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Washington and Bowmar at least over the weekend. Residents of Bowmar west of Letitia will access their homes from Washington Street, those east of Letitia from Drummond Street.
