Recently a group of Army helicopter pilots from Kentucky made a stop at the Vicksburg Municipal Airport while on their way to the Army base at Fort Polk, Louisiana. It's great to know that our airport is being utilized efficiently and is accommodating to those aircrafts and pilots from various locations. Vicksburg Municipal Airport Director, Mr. Sam Washington has made great improvements and continues his developments in making our Airport what it is and for all that visit. There will be more information to come about his changes and future endeavors for this location.

Kansas City Holiday ExpressThe Kansas City Holiday Express Train will be in Downtown Vicksburg on Friday, December 5, 2014, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. The train will be open for tours and visits with Santa. This event is free and open to the public.

KCS' Holiday Express is a six-car train that brings Santa Claus and his elves to communities throughout the U.S. network at scheduled stops. These events are free and open to the public. No tickets are required.

mayor-with-flag2Mayor George Flaggs will hold a televised question and answer session on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Annex Board Room to discuss his first 1½ years in office as Mayor of the City of Vicksburg. All constituents and members of the business community are invited to join him on this day as he discusses past accomplishments and future goals of this administration.

Craig DanczykCraig Danczyk was appointed Deputy Chief of Fire Suppression December 1, 2014. He began his career with the Vicksburg Fire Department May 10, 1995, as a firefighter and was promoted through the ranks of lieutenant, captain and assistant chief during his 19.5 years with the department prior to his appointment as deputy chief.

He has logged more than 2,000 hours of training during his career, and is a National Registry Emergency Medical Technician, certified Mississippi State Fire Academy Smoke Diver, Certified Advanced Rescue Specialist, Fire Service Instructor, and a Fire And Life Safety Educator.

Flaggs Gets Visit from State Treasurer Lynn Fitch

In an effort to improve the State's financial literacy, Mississippi State Treasurer Flynn Fitch, visited Vicksburg and Mayor George Flaggs this week to promote her new program. 

According to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), Mississippi is the least financially capable state in the country. Since taking office in 2012, improving Mississippi's financial literacy has been one of Treasurer Fitch's highest priorities. She is building a TEAM of partners who agree that financial literacy is vital for our workforce and our consumers with a vision of providing financial literacy education statewide.

ChristmasParade2The Vicksburg Main Street Program has announced its 2014 Downtown Vicksburg Christmas Parade of Lights. The parade will take place on Saturday, December 6, 2014, beginning at 5:00 p.m. This year's parade theme is "Christmas on the River". All area Clubs, Churches, Organizations, Schools, Dance/Drill Teams, and Businesses are encouraged to take place in this community parade.
