Tapestry Tours

Experience the rich Tapestry of early Vicksburg life. Explore the fabric of Vicksburg society with tours of our historic homes and hallways. Enjoy interpretive presentations of Vicksburg's history that bring to life the heritage and culture of this remarkable river city.
 
Sixteen of Vicksburg's most historic properties will tell their stories from antebellum grandeur to the Siege of Vicksburg to turn of the 20th Century. Together these stories weave the Tapestry of who we are today. Tapestry begins March 11-April 5 2010.

Hit the Bricks

Sisters of Mercy

Sister Paulinus Oakes will speak about the Sisters of Mercy at the Southern Culture Heritage Center, 1302 Adams Street. She will also be conducting a book signing and selling her book "Tapestry of Mercy" on site.

The Jacqueline House African-American Museum

Tillman Whitley, curator of The Jacqueline House African-American Museum, will give insight into the circumstances and conditions that outstanding Vicksburg citizens overcame to achieve their goals. He will speak about the work in progress between black history and enterprise. Whitley will also discuss the issues the Jacqueline House has faced the past 15 years and their goals to build the connection between incentive and integrity, to partner autonomy with participation, and to keep the history alive.

Vicksburg Warren Honor Choir

River City Heart Walk

On March 27, 2010 at the Rainbow Event Center next door to Rainbow Casino, we will host the River City Heart Walk. It will be a fun-filled morning for all ages!!! Registration will begin at 8:30 AM with the Walk beginning at 9:00 AM. The walk will proceed around the parameter of Rainbow Casino onto the banks of the Mississippi River. It is a gorgeous view and walk! We will then  proceed into the event center for all types of games, entertainment, health screenings and so much more. Sultana

Alan Huffman will speak at the Old Courthouse Museum about his book Sultana which is a "powerful account of a surprisingly forgotten tragedy of the Civil War." The sinking Sultana remains the worst maritime disaster in American history, yet due to a confluence of contemporary events (Lincoln's assassination), it soon faded into relative obscurity. Huffman is a freelance journalist and the author of the highly acclaimed Mississippi In Africa. He has appeared in numerous NPR shows and has contributed to many publications.

Riverfest

Riverfest is right around the corner! This year Riverfest will take place on Friday, April 16th and Saturday, April 17th.  Friday night the festivities will kick off at 6:00 p.m. with King Edward, followed by The Chill at 7:05, Red Stone and the Guilt Ridden Troubadour at 8:10, The Tip Tops will take the stage at 9:15, and the night will end with Jason Michael Carroll at 10:45. Saturday will begin with the Arts and Crafts Festival which will begin Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. around City Hall. The festival will continue throughout the day on Saturday with exhibitions on Washington Street, food vendors, and craft vendors. When the sun goes down the musical entertainment gets cranked up! Saturday evening will be kicked off with Mayhem String Band at 6:00, Rocket 88 at 7:05, Jimbo Mathus at 8:10, J. Blackfoot at 9:15, and Blue Mountain takes the stage at 10:45.
